Older Employees Brush Off Mental Health Issues

Apr 23, 2019

A survey commissioned by Bupa has produced results that I think will surprise many.

As reported here,  baby boomers (aged 55+) were shown to be the most likely of all workers to delay or avoid seeking medical help for symptoms associated with mental ill-health.

This is despite the fact that more than two thirds of employees in this age group suffer from symptoms associated with mental ill-health including anxiousness, continuous low mood, feelings of hopelessness and insomnia.

All of which impact cognitive health at a time when the risk of age-related cognitive decline increases.

With the continued forecast growth in the size of this demographic, these are big numbers.

We need to give older workers the tools to understand their cognitive health and what they can do to best look after it.
