Keep Britain Working: Final Report
This week saw the Department of Work and Pensions publish this report following the review into ill-health and disability in the workplace, led by Sir Charlie Mayfield.
In the Case for Change section, it makes specific reference to young adults being hit hard:
the growth in 16 to 34 year-olds with a mental health condition who are economically inactive due to long term sickness is particularly concerning, having risen by 190,000 (76%) between 2019 and 2024
But no suggestion is made as to why this has happened. We know that the ‘Covid Pandemic’ took place during that time. We also know that the government’s actions had a catastrophic impact on mental health, particularly on this age group.
In fact there is no mention of ‘Covid’ in the whole body of the report.
Why is this?
